Assimilate Scratch Training Resources

About a year ago now I partnered with CMIVFX and Assimilate to create a small tutorial series.  The two volumes I created “SCRATCH Digital Intermediate – Volume 1” & “SCRATCH VFX Processing Techniques – Volume 2” are currently available for FREE in the Assimilate Store & cmiVFX.

The first Volume 1 is roughly 3 hours of getting you up and running with the Scratch way of working.  It explores all the tools you will need to get going with the fun stuff in Volume 2.  “Scratch VFX Processing Techniques” was much more rewarding to put together as it takes all the tools I show you in Volume 1 and applies them to real world Feature and TVC projects that require more than just Color Grading.  One of the films that I showcase is an independent Feature film I timed called “BloodLine”.  To be clear, I am a big believer in using the right tool for the job and we use both Assimilate Scratch & DaVinci Resolve at our facility, but for BloodLine, Scratch was that right tool.  It allowed us to get a large amount of visual effects shots completed in the software itself rather than having to send it to our VFX vendor and wait a week or more to see the effect.  A few of those shots are in the training series and I breakdown how to accomplish tasks such as removing boom mics, adding atmospheric effects, Day for Night, Beauty work, Stabilizing, tracking, noise reduction, grain and de-grain techniques, and many other neat tricks to wow your client with very little time lost.  I hope you enjoy the training can apply the knowledge to improving your skill set.

At the time I created the videos, the latest version of Scratch 7 was not quite yet available so the training is done in Scratch 6, but the majority of the training is still quite valid to developing your Scratch skills and is worth checking out.
